Although a new company, The Small Business SalesForce had its beginnings in 1996 with its founder Thomas Burns. At that time, Thomas Burns worked as an outside sales rep for his family's gift basket business. The business did not generate enough profit to pay a base salary for a full-time sales person, so he worked on commission only. To generate additional income, he took a position with another company working as an outside sales rep, selling yellow page advertising to small businesses. Thomas quickly began making sales and then just as quickly, turned these new sales into clients for the family Gift Basket business. The concept worked so well that he decided to recruit other professional sales reps to sell for his family's business. Within three years, they had five professional outside sales reps working on commission only. This created a successful win-win situation.
In 2002, Gift Baskets closed. Seeking to remain a business owner and independent sales rep, Thomas began looking for other avenues of revenue and partnerships. This lead to creating partnerships with other sales & marketing professionals who firmly believe that small business is the backbone and driving force in this nation's economy and as such requires the best resources and help available. Thus, Small Business SalesForce was born.
